The went to Church Ave replacing the in that area 4/9/1936, extended to Union Turnpike on 12/31/1936, and all the way to 169th street on 4/24/1937. Once the Sixth Ave subway was built, the went to Second Ave or Hudson terminal (WTC) 12/15/1940. On that day, it stopped going to Church Ave and was replaced by today's train.

Finally, on 12/11/1988, the moved away from the 179th street stop and was assigned to the new Archer Ave subway to Jamaica Center and is considered one of the fastest express lines in the entire subway system.

The movie "Ghost" was filmed in an abandoned lower level of the 42nd street station under the Port Authority bus terminal. This was the scene where Patrick Swayzie was first learning how to fling soda caps and realizing his spiritual powers.
